About
Eruption Collective

  • Established in 2022 by Conor Burke, Eruption Collective is a new theatre company that is committed to creating joyful and engaging theatrical experiences that tell stories of today.

We are passionate about theatre and believe that everyone has a tale to tell - we are committed to working with creatives of all kinds, from all backgrounds, and presenting work that we trust has something to add to the public zeitgeist.

As a new theatre company, we strongly believe in creating safe and comfortable environments for our colleagues and audiences - open dialogue, accessibility, and fairness are at the core of what we do.

We aim to produce relevant (yet irreverent), contemporary (but classic), pleasant (though provocative) performances by the people of today who yearn for a better, more colourful, tomorrow. We encourage eccentricity and are inspired by the imaginative.

Constantly creating and consistently curious, Eruption Collective believe that theatre should be for everyone.

We look forward to all that will come.

  • Eruption Collective believes that theatre should be for everyone.

We are committed to creating safe and productive work environments for our colleagues and audiences. Our main mission is to produce high-quality, engaging, and exceptional theatre that engages with people of all kinds.

We are particularly interested in work that is centred around, made for, and presented alongside those of a lower socio-economic background.

It’s no secret that historically, theatre has been an art-form long dominated by the upper classes. In recent times, there has been a monumental amount of work done on the subject of accessibility within the theatre industry.

Theatre can be overly-complicated, overly intellectualised, and not always representative of the audience who experience it. At Eruption Collective, we are committed to producing work that is not elitist, easy to engage with, and simple to follow.

We fundamentally dispute the argument that all theatre and performance should be avant-garde, complicated, and difficult to understand

We truly believe that the theatre we produce can be appreciated by all.

  • As a brand new - and completely unfunded theatre company - we are limited in our financial resources and influence. However, we do believe we are able to help in some small ways.

As a sign of our commitment to this, here are some actionable steps we are committed to taking in the 2023 – 2024 calendar year for our audiences and collaborators.

    1) We are making ten free tickets available to each production that we produce in our 2023 - 2024 season: particularly tailored toward younger people of a lower socio-economic background. As we move forward, we hope that this number can increase.

    2) Outreach is important to us – we want to make sure that the theatre we make creates a dialogue and encourages active participation. For each production that we produce in our 2023-2024 season, we will endeavour to work with at least one school, youth group, or community outreach programme on themes and motifs presented within our work. We hope to accomplish this through post- show Q&A’s, workshops, and collaboration with other bodies.

    3) We expect all collaborators who work with us to complete Unconscious Bias and Bullying & Harassment at Work training - each supplied by Screen Ireland free of charge.

    4) We have signed the Declaration of Adoption pledge constructed by Safe to Create – which pledges to create a safe, inclusive, respectful workplace where artists and arts workers can thrive, free from all forms of harassment, discrimination, bullying and violence.

    5) In the case of a funded production, we are committed to liaising with artists and theatre professionals on fair pay – and collaborating on contracts with the practitioner in question. We also endeavour to pay the artist within four weeks of funding being received, and an invoice being issued.

    6) In the case of an unfunded production, we endeavour to operate on a box-office split - once initial costs of producing our production has been covered. Contracts will be written up and agreed on before rehearsals begin. We endeavour to pay the artist within four weeks of profit being received from the venue themselves.

It is our hope that that our missions and ethos change and grow as we adapt over time.

Our commitment to fairness, outreach, and inclusivity is a top priority.
